Visitors Are Vital

Traffic is key for your site to be useful; owning a website and not having anyone look at it is useless unless you are still building the site and do not want to expose it to the world yet. There is no point in owning a site and not having traffic, because the point of a website is to provide information, services or help to people that arrive at your site.

There are a few ways to get traffic to your site: get ranked high in a search engine, advertising, and networking. The main search engines to get ranked on are Google and Yahoo. Getting a high page rank and place on Google is key to having a successful site. Networking and getting the word out about how your site can help people is also important. If your site helps many people you will get a lot of traffic, and your page rank and position will increase without effort. Advertising is also vital, letting people your site is out there and, if they visually see that they will be more likely to visit your site.

Building links gets you ranked higher on search engines and can drive traffic to your site. The more links you have the higher you will be ranked. The quality of the links also matter, if you have links from higher page rank sites than you will also be ranked higher. Building links can be done in a matter of ways: Articles with your link at the bottom, posting in forums and adding your URL to directories.

Advertising is fairly easy and can be done all online. The main search engines have many ways to advertise and it can be done very cheaply. Sites that get a lot of traffic will sell ad space. You can advertise on My Space, Face book and Twitter. Most likely you could advertise on You Tube, Squidoo and other highly searched sites.

There are some links that can be better than others; .edu and.gov links are thought valuable by search engines. If you can build links from .edu and .gov sites than you can get a better ranking in search engines. There are a few ways to build links, submitting you site's url to directories, posting your site in forums, writing articles and adding a signature with a url to your site, advertising, or networking and recommending your site to others. There are services that can do these things for you or you can do it manually.

Following these tips will almost guarantee success with your site if you implement them correctly. They can be implemented very easily especially if you have surfed the web often. Traffic is key for a site to succeed, but it is worthless if your site is not valuable. Make sure you have a site that people will get something out of and want to come back.
